Tell the Ford government to invest the resources required to ensure every student gets the learning environment they need to succeed.
Take ActionIn 2019, the Ford government increased class sizes and slashed education funding. In the 2021 budget, there was a $1.3 billion cut to school funding, followed by another $500 million cut in the fall economic statement. These cuts will continue to increase every year. According to Ontario’s budget watchdog, the Financial Accountability Office, the Ontario government is planning to spend $12.3 billion less over the next ten years on schools than what’s needed in order to keep up with population growth and infrastructure needs.
While cuts to education negatively impact all students, they disproportionately affect students from vulnerable populations. Continued cuts to education will disadvantage students, and risk more learning loss. Furthermore, a decade-long cut to school funding will increase the disrepair in Ontario schools and further jeopardize the health and safety of students and teachers.
